If those Hollywood bigwigs ever wanted to make a movie about my life then this is the soundtrack I would insist on, not that those coke-snortin', whore-fuckers would listen to reason. Scumbags.
Every song is taken from one of my favourite films or TV shows, with the exception of Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney's "Blood Embrace", which features dialogue from John Flynn's 1977 corker, Rolling Thunder.
Tell me what you think, you magnificent bastards.

Graham! This is magnificent! Love the concept, and loads of wonderful music! Some has stirred affection for films and tv I love, others (most to be honest) are completely new to me. Man - The Warriors theme! Makes me want to get clinkin' those milk bottles on my fingers.... Current faves on first listen: Tank! - totally joyful and uber-cool, Opening, for the same reasons! Main theme from Blood on Satan's Claw, Diary of a Taxi Driver (I love Bernard Herrmann, his are the soundtracks of my youth!), The Pink Room - just realised I am pretty much listing all the tracks! I really lofve that Jim O'Rourke track, it's my favourite of his,l and Love Liza is a great and a surprisingly funny film, considering how dark the subject matter is. Hey, there's nothing from Dazed and Confused on here?! I love Way Down in the Hole - blistering! Ah, that Inkspots song is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteDazed & Confused? I know, I know! Just couldn't bring myself to put an Aerosmith song in there, even though I desperately wanted to.
ReplyDeleteReally, really happy that you've found lots to like, Kate. Cowboy Bebop is a genuinely brilliant anime that everyone should watch, and 'Tank!' has to be the best opening theme tune to any TV show. Get watching, if you haven't already.
I must confess that the Inkspots and Tom Waits tunes aren't the same versions found on the fellas listed, but to me these renditions are much more interesting.
I know what you mean, Sweet Emotion might jar slightly (much as I love it!) amongst the more deep and interesting numbers on your compilation! I would definitely like to see Cowboy Bebop sometime. Happy weekend!
